We had the privilege of attending the OnBehalf and Twominds’ Two Step tour starting in Christchurch and finishing in Wellington. Held at live music venues Flux and San Fran, both nights were a sold-out success. Featuring a strong DJ line up from Christchurch and Wellington, the Two Step tour was one not to forget.

Talking to Twominds team Dan Stewart and Corban Tupou at the start of the night, we asked what was to commence. “We’re squeezing 300 people in our favourite place to listen to some of our favourite music in our favourite city in New Zealand,” they said.

Stoked to have sold out the first stop on their very first Twominds tour, Corban said, “it’s quite a humbling feeling reflecting where we were a year ago from now”. Self-described as two nostalgic people wanting to create memories for themselves and friends, their ethos is about regularly reinventing and keeping it interesting. By the number of people at Flux that night, they were doing something right.

The night began with local Kravis, followed by Wellington’s Munro, Ferg, and Twominds’ own Freddy Tuco. Hurricane Emily and Corners were next, with Techno Tradie ending with an almighty bless. Each DJ had something different to give. Highlights included the shoe-themed décor, a hand-painted archway, and open-plan decks. The general vibe of the night was perfect, and the space was spot on. “Love the energy” was the line we heard the most.

When it comes to house and techno, we’ve been a bit late to the game, so the event was a great opportunity to join the club. For those loyal followers or first-time two-steppers, Onbehalf and Twominds picked their line-up right for a well-rounded night.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Flux has to replace their fake grass. People dusted off their two step twofold.

Moving on from the Garden City, the next stop was Wellington. We picked the boys from Twominds up from the airport and introduced them to the city. The Yo Vocal welcome included Go Karting and a visit to Oriental Bay and boy did Wellington put on a show. No wind, sun beaming. It was more than ideal. You can’t beat Wellington on a...

Saturday night came around, and at 9pm the second stop of the tour started to ramp up. We rocked up, and Kravis was already laying down some beats – throwing us straight into grooving, a good start if you ask me. Corners followed, then Techno Tradie played with Aunty Elz. Then the final three DJ’s played Munro x Ben, Potto, and Freddy Tuco. They all brought their individual energy and spice to the event.

Grooving into the wee hours of the morning, we looked at the clock, and it was 4am. Jumping into the van, we drove to the airport, waved the boys off and then boosted home for a well-earned sleep.

At Yo Vocal, we've been lucky enough to have been to Twominds gigs right from their inception. It's safe to say that these guys sure know how to make people dance, and Onbehalf is right up there with them. If you’re ever in town and Twominds or Onbehalf are putting a show, we highly recommend you go for a groove – we know we will be.
